Your Guide To Buying a Body Groomer

By Sharon Lim

When you want to look your best, every detail matters. That extends to body hair. For some people, having perfectly maintained and sculpted body hair is essential, which can be tricky, since most razors are designed for specific uses (for instance, faces or legs), and can be inconvenient or downright dangerous to use elsewhere. Fortunately, there are plenty of electric body groomers on the market that can make the job easy, safe, and comfortable. Regardless of your grooming needs, with a little bit of Internet homework, you’ll be able to find the perfect model. Here are a few things to look for as you get started on that search.

General: “General” body groomers are ones that are designed to be used pretty much anywhere on the body that has hair. While these models might lack the specificity of others, they make up for it in versatility.

Area-specific: Other groomers are designed to work best with one particular area of the body, for instance, facial groomers that are designed to keep eyebrows, sideburns, and other facial hair in check. These can be great for doing one or two jobs, although they usually don’t allow users to accomplish all of their grooming needs with a single tool.

Gender-specific: Although, as a rule, hair is hair, there are plenty of groomers on the market that are designed and sold specifically with male or female users in mind.

Wet or Dry: Some groomers are designed to work in wet environments, which means that they can be used in the shower for maximum efficiency when the user is trying to multitask his or her grooming

Here are some things reviewers point to when explaining how they rated their body groomers

    • Efficiency: One of the most important qualities of a body groomer is that it does its job quickly and cleanly—which brings both convenience and comfort. The best models work fast, allowing users to get on with their days.
    • Comfort: Speed is important, but so is comfort. It’s essential that a groomer does not cause pain or discomfort when removing hair—or to keep discomfort to a minimum—and great brands do just that.
    • Detail and volume: Depending on the groomer in question, users look for a model that can either provide exact, fine detail, or able to manage a heavy volume of body hair. The best models can do both, but really good models can do one or the other, depending on the user’s specific needs.
    • Accessories: Accessories can be important, but only if they make sense. With great groomers, the accessories that they come with (if they come with them) are well-designed to add value to the groomer.
    • Shaving versus grooming: It’s important to think about the difference between getting as much hair off of the target area as possible, and doing fine detailed work while leaving some (or most) of the hair in place. While some groomers can handle both jobs well, if you have a specific job in mind, it might be worth your time and money to seek out a model that is designed specifically with your target use in mind.
    • Comb settings: The comb determines the length of hair that will be left over after the groomer is used. Depending on how you plan on using your device, look for a model that comes with a good variety of comb lengths for maximum versatility.
    • Power source: Be sure to take a look at how the groomer is powered—some require plugging-in to charge, while others are battery-powered.

Phillips Norelco: Philips is an American corporation that has one of the most diversified businesses in the country, with divisions that touch upon virtually every industry. One of those divisions is Norelco, which produces a wide range of high-quality and best-selling electric shavers.

ConAir: ConAir is an American company that specializes in producing grooming accessories. The company offers a wide selection of products, from personal groomers to electric toothbrushes, to meet customers’ needs.

Wahl: Wahl is an American manufacturer of grooming products. Founded in 1919, the company now boasts a number of product lines, including ones for home use, professional styling, and even pet grooming.

Remington: Remington is an American company that produces hair accessories. The company’s history is long and diverse, dating back to the 1830s and former product lines that include everything from typewriters to firearms. The company has been making and selling shavers and other grooming accessories since the 1930s, and is one of the industry’s most well-recognized leaders.

Braun: Braun is a German razor producer that has operated as a subsidiary of the American company Gillette since 1967. Braun was founded in 1921, and since its beginning, has entrenched itself as one of the world’s leading producers of shavers and other grooming products.
